Spoiler alert: I’m going to talk about the new ep! Although I shouldn’t have to alert anyone, because you should have already seen it!
As I write I am watching Santabarbaratown 2 for the third time! Just wanted to watch it a few times before I started to write about it. First off, I thought it was a really good back in action premiere episode. Well worth the wait. There was a good mix of new interesting things going on with the classic shenanigans that makes Psych so lovable. One of the first things I noticed was the video editing of Shawn’s actions. More specifically the slow motion Assassin’s Creed-esque actions (breaking glass & seeing clues) and the increase of emphasis of Shawn’s clue perception. I do like the dramatic emotion the slow motion brings for the episode, although I’m not sure it should carry throughout the series. The latter however would work for future episodes. It shows improvement & screams new season awesomeness. Small thing to note was the alias given to both Shawn & Gus, interestingly caught me off guard to the usual ‘I’m Shawn, this is *insert random funny Gus alias here*’ This episode also gladly brings back a nice overview of other Psych favorites such as ‘going boneless’ ‘don’t make up words’ ‘the blueberry’ their obsession with delicious food and many others.
& dudes the half beard disguise is genius! I literally laughed out loud…& when I saw what happened to the blueberry. I loved the addition of the cranberry, adorable idea…albeit short lived.
I mentioned briefly that this ep highlighted their love for food. This is awesomely seen with the debut of Jerk Chicken Nachos & of course I had to look up the recipe!

I have yet to try it, but thought I should share anyway…one day ill make a Psych themed food post!
I also really liked how every character was thoroughly portrayed that served as a review of Psych. Shawn was mainly emotionally driven but always broke it up with humor. He was def more badass in this ep though. When he straight up pulled out the gun, that was pretty baller. The twist in character really made it interesting. Gus was still loyal, put into unfortunate situations, & snappy towards Shawn’s ways. Lassiter was so Lassie with his high view of himself, but still had a moment of caring & humanity. I also enjoyed the mention of Marlowe to show that they didn’t forget about her! Juliet was her caring, but tough save the day self (although i felt like she didnt get as much airtime but enough to reinforce her feelings for Shawn) and Chief Vic was classically acting tough but has enough heart to break the rules despite her authoritative position.
Finally, I found it interesting that as I waited for the second showing of the ep, I ran into many things that reminded me of Psych. To start, the Miz was on Conan. The Miz had just as much crazy energy as he did when he starred on Shawn & the Real Girl. In addition, the word ‘cathartic’ came up while they were talking it up. I mean really, how many times do you really hear that word in a 2hr span? Then while I was watching an ep of CSI, there Woody was & his creepy self :P
Overall…my heart hearts this episode & Psych!
